Located between.PYRENEES AND MONTAGNE NOIRE, in the heart of the Minervois area, Pépieux must have first existed some 5000 years ago as suggested by the objects found in its dolmen, the biggest one in southern France. Finds dating from roman times were also discovered around the village, but the latter is mostly noticeable for its various vestiges and traces left from the Middle Ages such as the ramparts, the tower, the beautiful facade of the castle chapel, a fine and rare window with its romanesque arcature and wel-preserved central slender colunm as well as other medieval houses. |
